A suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of two-year-old Juliana Nalwanga and her family awarded Shs1 million for her burial which took place on Friday, government officials have said.
Nalwanga was killed by what police say was a stray bullet in Masaka on Thursday, after security forces tried to disperse a walk-to-work demonstration. Information Minister Kabakumba Masiko confirmed the developments on Sunday, saying the government is following up on the case.

Chairperson for the Uganda Human Rights Commission Med Kaggwa said the body’s officers in Masaka have been conducting an investigation into the matter. “The action would be against the Attorney General, that is, if the man who shot was a policeman,” he said.

President of the Uganda Law Society Bruce Kyerere said the society has petitioned the Chief Justice, for an emergency seating of the Justice, Law and Order Sector stakeholders “to chart out rules of engagement for security forces and the management of public situations”.

The watotoz.blogspot.com stakeholders continue to raise alarm and advocacy for safety and security of the children, who mostly are the innocent victims, especially during both covert and overt management of violence and public demonstration.
